Hi I'm Dixie, I'm 16 and I live in Medowie, Port Stephens, NSW. I was notified 2.5 weeks ago I have been selected to compete in the U18 Oceania Championships in Triple Jump in Suva, Fiji 1-9 June 2024. I am so excited to wear the Green and Gold this is a dream come true! I was only notified of my selection 2.5 weeks ago so even though I had my fingers crossed when we found out I was selected its a very short notice period to pay the flights, levy and uniform costs totalling approximately $3500. I will stay with the team for the trip and my mum will come to Fiji for a couple of days to support and coach me at the event, this is an added expense but its important I have someone there to coach me through the competition.

I travel a lot to compete in athletics events. I have competed at 6 National Championships since 2019 all over Australia- Darwin, Adelaide (twice), Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. In season I frequently travel the 2.5 hour trip to Sydney to compete and I do these trips with my mum. We have to pay accommodation for all of these trips so my parents expenses are high to keep me competing at the events I need to attend. Sometimes in season we travel to Sydney almost every second weekend. In February I stopped working at my part time job at GYG so I could fit all my training in and make sure I have enough time for my studies as I am in year 11 and this is important to me. I am so excited to have been selected and I am working really hard with my coaches (Thanks Glenn and Ramona) on ensuring my preparation for this event has me fit, strong and competition ready!
