Evie has had a whirlwind progression in her sailing over the past 2 years.

She has committed herself to training and competing in regattas at local, state and national levels all throughout Australia.

After amazing results at the 2023 QLD State Championships, as the first placed female and competing at the 2024 Nationals in Adelaide she is honoured to have been selected in the Australian Optimist Development Squad (AODS).

The squad will represent the Australian International Optimist Dinghy Association (AIODA) in the Eastern Seaboard Regatta in Pattaya, Thailand from 17-21 October 2024.

The squad will be training together at George’s River Sailing Club in Sydney 12-14th July.

Evie will also be attending many other coaching clinics, regattas, training sessions and club races in the lead up to Thailand and in preparation for the 2024 QLD State Titles and 2025 Nationals, being held at RQYS in Brisbane.

Her schedule includes

  • QLD Youth Week Regatta & Training Camp - Brisbane July 1-7.
  • AODS Training Camp - Sydney July 12-14.
  • QLD Youth Championships & Training Camp - Yeppoon Sep 16-21.
  • Eastern Seaboard Regatta, Pattaya Thailand - Oct 17-21.
  • QLD Optimist State Titles - Brisbane Dec 7-8.
  • 2025 Australian Optimist Championships - Brisbane Jan 2025.

This is in addition to training twice a week as part of Southport Yacht Club’s Sail Academy and club racing on Sundays.

While the wind is free, there are significant costs involved to travel & compete at National and International sailing events.

Costs for Training Camps and Regattas include

* Flights & accommodation

* Fuel and transport for boats

* Registration & entry fees

* Coaching fees

* Charter boat fees

* Mandatory team uniforms

* Equipment and safety gear

* Insurance and other incidentals

Given her age, she also requires a parent to travel with her and this impacts their time and work.

Her goal is to make the most of this opportunity, working with and learning from a variety of amazing coaches and other talented sailors, to develop her skill as a sailor, as well as create lifelong memories and friendships within the sailing community.

Any help to support her on this journey will be deeply appreciated.
