Background:

Felix is 17 and a member of the Sport Climbing South Australia Youth Team, and next month he will be competing at the Youth National Championships in Sydney from 18-21 May 2023.

Felix was introduced to climbing at age 12 as an outlet for his limitless energy, and discovered his super-bendy joints suddenly came in very useful. Just 6 months later he won the SA State Youth Bouldering Titles and has been on a wall ever since.

Achieving selection for Nationals has required a significant commitment over the last 5 years. In addition to a daily home exercise/training program, Felix travels approximately 13,000km a year to Youth Squad, individual coaching and training, exercise physiology, and State Youth Team workshops. This year he has taken an active role in coaching young climbers at the gym where his climbing journey began.

Variety - the Childrens' Charity have very generously provided Felix with financial support towards his intensive training over the past 12 months. Their support has now come to an end and we are fundraising to cover some of the high cost involved in competing interstate.

Achievements:

For the past 5 years Felix has been part of the Youth Squad at his climbing gym, which provides weekly coaching for climbers of all abilities for ages 5 to 18. He has been identified as having great potential as a competitive climber, and is a well-liked and respected member of the climbing community. His competitive achievements include:

  • Won 2018 State Bouldering Titles Youth C
  • Won 2019 Sports Climbing SA State Lead Titles Youth C
  • Won 2019 Sports Climbing SA State Bouldering Titles Youth C
  • 2nd 2021 Vertical Reality Climbing Olympics (Speed, Lead, Boulder) - Open
  • 3rd 2021 Sports Climbing SA State Bouldering Titles Youth B
  • Selected for State Youth Team and Youth National Championships 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
  • Placed 8th overall at Youth National Championships 2022
