14-year-old Mid North Coast athlete Indi Harris is gaining momentum in fulfilling one of her dreams – competing at the UIPM Laser Run World Championships in Portugal in September. She then has her sights firmly set on being selected for the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane!

Indi is no stranger to representing Australia. In 2019 she travelled to China as one of four members of the junior international team for Pony Club Australia. She was just 11 years old at the time and the youngest ever rider to be part of an international team representing Australia. Her passion for horse riding led her to Modern Pentathlon – a sport she now loves.

For the past two years, Indi has been training and competing at a high level in pentathlon and tetrathlon events which are made up of a combination of five disciplines – laser shooting, cross country running, swimming, fencing and show jumping.

In 2021, Indi won her first State Tetrathlon title and secured a place in the National team where she competed amongst the best in the country. Indi placed in the top 4 for her swim, run and laser shooting events while her sub junior NSW team placed second overall at the National event.

Most recently, Indi took home second place in the Autumn Modern Pentathlon event in the Under 15's and also placed second in the Winter Championships held in Melbourne. This result has secured her a place on the Australian team for the UIPM Laser Run World Championships to be held in Lisbon, Portugal in September. See video of Indi in action: fencing.

No one is more deserving of this hard-won opportunity than Indi. She is extremely dedicated to her sport. Each and every day, Indi incorporates gruelling training sessions in any one of the disciplines required of her while competing at events Australia wide when the chance arises.

It takes a village to raise and support a champion. Indi understands and is incredibly grateful for the support of her local community and beyond.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged and helped me on this amazing journey, especially all my coaches and my mum. I wish to thank all those who are taking the time to read this and who are helping me realise my dream of getting to the World Championships in Portugal.” Indi said.

Please chip in anything – big, small or anything in between – to help Indi get to compete in the World Championships this September.
