Blind Ambition: Help Josh be a Blind Golf Champion

Joshua has been invited to play in the England and Wales Blind Golf Open (July 2024) in Oxford. Joshua will also be playing in Australian Blind Golf events during 2024 and also has the opportunity for further international competitions.

About Josh:

Joshua Wood, a 17-year-old high school student from Brisbane, Australia, is a rising star of Blind Golf. With unwavering determination, resilience, and a superlative work ethic, Josh has had success in numerous golf tournaments.

Born with a rare eye condition that caused him to be severely vision impaired and legally blind, Joshua has faced his share of adversity. Yet, true to his nature, he never complains, and instead channels his energy into helping others and relentlessly pursuing his passion for golf.  Joshua has recently endured two emergency eye surgeries and will be playing in his first international events since his surgeries.

Joshua discovered Blind Golf at the age of 13, finding a sport that he could safely play despite his condition. This not only gave him an opportunity to play competitive sport but also allowed him to play alongside his father and older brother, both avid golfers.

Balancing his rigorous golf training with his school studies, Joshua consistently achieves outstanding grades with a demanding subject load. Joshua’s journey and catalogue of achievements are a testament to his insurmountable spirit and dedication, which never cease to inspire everyone around him.

Sporting Achievements:

• Current Blind Golf Australian Open Junior Champion

• Current Blind Golf Australian Stableford Junior Champion

• Current Blind and Low Vision Golf Qld Open Junior Champion

• Canadian Blind Golf Open Junior Champion (2021)

• Invited and competed in British Blind Golf Open (2023)

The Challenge:

Joshua has been selected to be a part of the five-time Olympian, Nat Cook’s Aussie Athlete Fund, $1 Million Challenge, powered by Ampol and has been challenged to raise at least $10000 to help him with his sporting costs. Aussie Athlete Fund has partnered Joshua with Westminster Finance to help him raise these much-needed funds which will help Joshua to continue in the sport he loves.

How You Can Help:

Joshua's goal is to one day be selected to play in the Blind Golf World Championships and to also be one of the top golfers with a disability. For Joshua to be able to play at a competitive level in the sport he loves, this comes at considerable financial cost. Some of these costs include national and international travel for Joshua and his caddy, equipment, coaching and various other sport related costs. As Joshua has to travel with assistance from his caddy, this increases the costs each time he travels and trains.

Joshua is grateful for any support you can give to help him in his Blind Golf journey. You can follow Josh on Instagram (joshuawoodgolf) to keep updated on his journey.
