I am Skipper of the Lost At See Blind Sailing Team, the only team to represent Australia in the 2024 World Blind Match-Racing Championships in Sciez France at the end of June. I am joined by Erin McGlew on jib, and Eric Seery on main.
My team won Gold in the 2014 World Blind Match-Racing Worlds, and silver in the 2013 and 2019 Blind Fleet-Racing Worlds.
Blind Match-Racing uses acoustic buoys and tack indicators to lay out the course and identify the boats, and allows blind sailors to compete without sighted assistance.
These regattas are always the highlight of my year, give me something positive to strive for and get me through, but I won’t be able to get there without your help.
Competing in this event will not only help me to fulfil my dream of winning another Gold in Blind Match-Racing, it will have a much wider impact on blind sports in Australia. My team’s participation on the world stage will raise the profile of blind sailing in the community and will encourage other people with vision impairments to take up the sport, ultimately increasing the pool of blind sailors in Australia.
As we are largely self-funded, I urgently need your help to raise $8,000 to cover such costs as the entry fee and damage deposit, as well as my travel and accommodation. Even $25 will help bring me that much closer to Sciez.
Through my partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, any donation you can give over $2 is tax deductible and will go a long way to getting me to Worlds!
I'm always amazed at everyone's generosity and support, so thank you so much for taking a huge weight off my shoulders.
