We seek your help in supporting Liam (Euma) with the Korean Open Taekwondo 2024 campaign.
Liam is an amazing 16-year-old who is a member of the taekwondo community in which he has a 3rd dan blackbelt in Taekwondo and is finally embarking on his journey for international experience that was delayed by COVID lockdowns and other factors. This will be his last opportunity to compete at a Junior level before venturing into Senior Open Divisions.
Liam's story:
As a Youth (5-11yrs) and Cadet (12-14yrs) he has been lucky enough to have competed in Taekwondo sparring at various local, interstate and national competitions (Inter-clubs, Victorian Championships, Adelaide Open, Tasmania Open, Nationals) with success in placing and medaling at various events.
He continued training throughout COVID lockdowns through virtual sessions and when we could return to team training sessions, he was able to re-ignite the elite competition level skills and is part of the Victorian Performance Development Program run by ATV (Australian Taekwondo Victoria).
However, in 2023 Liam suffered a devastating injury in which he broke his back with a bi-lateral partial pars fracture of the spine L4 that was a blow both mentally and physically for any emerging junior athlete.
Amazingly with determination, mind, body and spirit (along with rest /rehab) within 6 months was able to return actively to the sport he loves so much (where most would have given up) to pick-up the journey again at an elite level!
In early 2024 he was lucky enough in recognition of skill to be selected by ATV (Australian Taekwondo Victoria) and be sponsored to compete in the US Open. Liam gained invaluable experience in which he returned to Australia and then recently competed in the Gold Coast Open converting to a bronze medal, just narrowly missing out on proceeding to the finals.
Through his performance he has again been selected by ATV to be sponsored to compete in the Korean Open - July 2024! Though there is sponsorship the travel costs include flights, accommodation, ground travel and food, all add up and remainder must be self-funded.
We hope that you can join us to enable Liams remarkable milestone in his development as an athlete as we are reaching out to the community for support for him to travel and compete in Korea!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and we greatly appreciate any amount that can be donated. We will be grateful for all the help Liam can receive!
