APBA participants are players from all basketball backgrounds, including former Opals and Boomers players, former NBL players, State League and American College League players and officials. The all-inclusive competition also caters for players with limited or no basketball experience. The APBA Championships have become the longest running competitive police sporting Championships in Australia and New Zealand and the 2023 Championships will mark the 43rd Championships. Participants include Police Officers, Administration Officers, Retired and Former Police Officers, Protective Service Officers and Police Liaison Officers from every state and territory in Australia and New Zealand.

EVENT OBJECTIVES:

• The objectives of the APBA are to:
• To promote the good image of Australian and New Zealand Police
• To promote and develop physical fitness through competitive basketball
• To organise and conduct an annual Championship between all affiliated policing jurisdictions
• To co-operate with Basketball Australia and similar organisations throughout the world
• To co-operate with Australian and New Zealand Police sporting bodies

Participation in the Championships is entirely self-funded by competitors. The success of the competition is entirely dependent on how many financial contributors commit, with most commitments costing approximately $1,500 each. The QPBC is looking for donors to assist with the funding of the Championships.
