QSA Come Out and Play

QSA Come Out and Play

Queer Sporting Alliance (QSA) is Australia and NZ's largest LGBTIQA+ community sporting club. QSA's mission is to ensure LGBTIQA+ folk can access and participate in community sport. We are a multi sport club and currently run basketball and rollerskating. More sports will be added in 2022 with your help!

We have teams playing in:

Kaurna/Adelaide

Naarm/Melbourne

Mianjin/Brisbane

Gadigal/Sydney

Nipaluna/Hobart

Garramila/Darwin and NZ.

We hope with funding to reach more capital cities across Australia in 2022 with your help! Through our fundraising partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, donations to QSA are tax deductible.

QSA President and founder Stella Lesic grew up playing community sport in Naarm/Melbourne. Having experienced life as a closeted youth basketballer, they were driven to build safe spaces for everyone to 'Come Out & Play'.

The club began in 2015 in Naarm as Bushrangers Basketball and moved to their new club name QSA in 2021.

QSA pride themselves on creating safe spaces for LGBTIQA+ folk and their allies to play community sport. They are seeking to generate interest in all players in the LGBTIQA+ community (and allies) who are disengaged from sporting activity or looking for a safe space to play sport. They have a strong focus on supporting the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse players.

QSA are official diversity partners of Transgender Victoria and WNBL powerhouse Southside Flyers!

QSA acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the various lands on which their members enjoy sport and especially their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members. QSA pay their respects to Elders past, present and emerging. QSA celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to the lands and waters of the country.

QSA is stoked to announce our first amb-kickass-ador is former Australian Opal, Shelley Gorman! Shelley is a three time Olympian, an Olympic medalist and a Basketball Australia Hall of Famer.

Shelley shares QSA’s drive for promoting inclusion and diversity in basketball. She is also dedicated to improving fitness and wellness through her business Urban Warriors which she runs with her partner Kylie.

QSA is also stoked to announce our second amb-kickass-ador is 3x3 and WNBL rising star Marena Whittle. Marena has proudly represented Australia in 3x3 and was recently awarded Most Improved Player at Perth Lynx. With a move to Adelaide Lightening she is a player to watch this WNBL season.

Marena is a passionate advocate for inclusion and is pumped to be joining Shelley Gorman in our ambassador team.
