Visit websiteThe Rutherglen Cats Football Netball Club is working with the Rutherglen United Cricket Club and the Barkly Park Committee of Management to improve facilities at Barkly Park for sport and community use.
Our focus has been on:
- retaining and increasing the participation of women through our netball club, the unique Rutherglen female cricket team playing in the Wangaratta District Cricket Association and the shared Murray Felines football team.
- improving the change rooms for male and female umpires and male and female sportspeople.
- improving the facilities for community use following the unprecedented letters of support from 30 local community groups, many of whom wish to use Barkly Park for meetings and events.
To date we have made a significant start to our fund-raising with $80,000 from the local community, $150,000 from Indigo Shire (ratepayers) and $100,000 from the Victorian Government earmarked for Female Friendly Sporting facilities. The tenant clubs and Barkly Park CoM have already replaced floors in the football and cricket change rooms using donated materials and labour (value about $80,000).
We need another $200,000 to complete this project which in addition to the above components will also include:
- better lighting for the netball courts and football oval,
- improved gymnasium and warm up facilities,
- renovation of two netball courts, and
- improved oval drainage.
