The entry fee for Ironman Worlds is $2200. A round trip flight to Kona (Hawaii) for the Ironman world championships currently costs $2500. Accommodation is an extra $10,000 on top of that. To compete at the pinnacle of endurance sport, any athlete is extremely limited by how much monetary support they have, rather than their talent and ability.
With winter rolling in, my training load and fitness is at an all-time high! But, it’s the quiet season for casual staff (me) and the funds that I can dedicate to the sport is slowly diminishing. Leaving an athlete with a high potential in the dark.
Ironman Cairns is going to be my first stepping stone towards a hugely successful career in triathlon. With a stellar swimming background, my goal is to swim my way to the front of the professional race, and stay in that field for as long as possible. I can guarantee with utmost certainty that I will have the fastest swim split of the day. First out of transition one, and keeping that lead into transition two, hoping that my training with professional athletes and close friends such as Richie Porte, Cameron Wurf, and Nathan Earle has set me up for success on the bike.
With any financial support, I can get myself to the start line and compete for the ultimate triumph as an age group athlete, and begin progressing into a career as a professional triathlete from Tasmania.
