My name is Sam Blade, and I’m an Australian wheelchair fencer dedicated to breaking barriers in para-sport. I began fencing in 2018 as a way to cope with a depressive spiral following my diagnosis of Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), a neuromuscular condition. Over time, fencing became more than just a passion — it became one of my most powerful treatments. Exercise is the only known way to slow the progression of FA, and returning to the sport in 2022 reignited my drive and purpose.

I’m proud to hold an international ranking of #53 in Men’s Category A Sabre following the Asian Championships in April 2024. But the journey is just beginning.

To keep training, competing, and improving, I need your support. Donations help cover essential costs such as:
