About Me

Hi!

I've been living & breathing windsurfing since I started at age 14 at my home club (RQYS), becoming obsessed with sailing faster than the coach boats, and more importantly my good mates. Through 2018 with the Queensland Youth Sailing Team, I caught the competetive bug and have been racing my heart out ever since, sailing in the Techno293, Raceboard, Slalom, 29er, 12ft Skiff & 18f Skiff classes. Alongside this as a grinder with the 'High Voltage' Extreme 40 Team.

In 2022, a couple of amazing friends and I moved into the IQFoil Class, the extremely fast, competetive, technical and fun new Olympic hydro-foiling windsurfer. We push each other to the limits, and are quickly climbing ladders in the class.

Within my competition aspirations I also love to 'Share the Stoke' with the next generation of sailors. Coaching what is now the largest youth Techno293 and IQFoil club Squads in the country.

A bit about the IQFoil Equipment

Equipment in the IQFoil Class is built to be light, responsive and fast. Unfortunately like all things, this comes at the cost of longevity. IQFoil Sails are high skin tension rigs made of monofilm plastic & stretch, crease and breakdown over a single season in the harsh UV of the Aussie sun. Several stainless steel bolts hold our hydrofoils together, but overtime they corrode alongside our aluminium fuselage, bolts are an accepted consumable in our class, and fuselages, whilst well looked after can span a season or 2 become draggy and slow for racing with surface corrosion. Our carbon masts have a thin Fibreglass wear layer on them, that the boom attachment and sail usually wears through within a season or two down to the structural carbon fibres.

Good equipment in this class is essential, small differences or worn gear can make a huge difference to the control we have while racing at high speeds (usually in the range of 18-30 knots of speed). The control and speed well maintained or new equipment has, gives significant options to a well trained sailor in a racing environment.
