Southern Athletic Club is the fastest growing athletics club in South Australia with track & field squads and a recreational running group. In the last 6 years we have expanded from just 6 to over 120 members, supporting athletes from 8 years old and upwards. The club is in desperate need of a home ground to continue its great work and we are seeking financial support to establish a dedicated athletics training facility in the heart of Southern Adelaide.
We have identified a perfect location and are working with the local council to obtain the necessary permissions to bring athletics to Knox Park, Morphett Vale. Knox Park is a large reserve where a 400m running track was constructed back in 1988 but sadly it has never been used for athletics. The ground is not currently used for any organised sports and is in need of some TLC to bring it up to a standard to host athletics training and competition.
Southern Athletic Club is raising funds to:
The club's catchment area covers some 200,000 people across the City of Onkaparinga and Fleurieu Peninsula so has a huge potential for growth. Having a strong senior athletics club with an established home ground will provide a pathway for kids from local Little Athletics centres and school sports programs and will attract new athletes to the sport. Constructing a district level athletics training facility at Knox Park will allow us to bring our training squads together and make better use of our coaches & resources.
On the back of a successful Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, interest in athletics is at a peak so it is a great time to bring athletics to Knox Park, increase participation in the sport and provide opportunities for fitness and active pursuits for our young people and wider community.
Through our fundraising partnership with the Sports Foundation, donations to this project are tax deductible so please show your support by donating today.
