About the project

We are aiming to raise money to support scholarship places for girls participating in Skate Like a Girl 2020. $90 supports one girl for one term of Skate Like a Girl. Skate like a Girl teaches girls 12-17 to roller skate and creates a mentally healthy space for teenage girls. It has run for 2 years with the support of Healthway / Act - Belong - Commit...now we need to raise money to run the project ourselves!

Support our runners to raise $1800 to support 20 scholarship positions for our Skate like a Girl program in 2020.

Skate like a Girl is a roller-skating and mental wellbeing program aimed at girls 12-17. It creates a safe space to learn new skills, fail, fall and support each other. in 2018 and 2019 we have seen over 120 girls participate in the program.

We need to keep costs low to encourage participation from girls who would not likely play sports due to the costs involved. We have the gear (skates and protective equipment already thanks to Girls on Track Foundation BUT need help with the program costs for each girl.

Through Albany Roller Derby League's fundraising partnership with the Sports Foundation, donations to this appeal are tax-deductible. So please show your support by donating today!

This is donated on behalf of my mother, Andrea Nicholson, in the hope it will help an LGBT person get into skating and the many mental/social/health benefits it brings.
