What We Do

Australia’s Leading Nonprofit Sports Fundraising Body

The number of people playing sport in Australia is in sharp decline. Athletes struggle to pay for sporting gear or for competition related travel. Grassroots clubs are resorting to using old and tired equipment.

While we all love our sport even the most basic of sporting endeavours requires funds. Unfortunately despite our love, sport is severely underfunded with many people struggling to afford the cost of play.

The Australian Sports Foundation has been helping athletes, sporting clubs and organisations fundraise for more than 30 years.

To further address the funding shortfall the Sports Foundation has successfully gained charitable status to enable private and public ancillary funds to invest in a sporting future where everyone can play.

We help Australian sporting clubs and individuals
raise funds for their sport.

Over the past 35+ years, we have helped thousands of clubs and athletes raise hundreds of millions of dollars. We have funded all sports at all levels.

We are the only organisation in Australia to have Deductible Gift Recipient status for sport. This means any donation of $2 or more is tax-deductible.

This tax-deductible benefit, along with our tools, resources and personal support, helps you reach your fundraising goals.

We are for Australian sport. We know that sport has the power to transform communities. It improves the mental, physical, educational and economic health of the nation. It fosters community spirit and brings people together.

Although Australia has a proud sporting culture, the reality is sport participation is decreasing. This is particularly true among young people. If the decline continues, the country could face $88 billion in extra health costs over the next decade.

We are committed to reversing this trend by changing the conversation around sport's contribution to our country.  Our goal is to raise awareness of how vital sport is to our country and gets the funding it deserves.

We administer a Charitable Fund, registered with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission. The fund supports causes that use sport as a medium to achieve social change.  This allows philanthropists to donate to charitable sporting causes through their Trusts, Foundations and Ancillary Funds.

Sport is important to our country.  Philanthropic investment in sport builds stronger communities. It means a more inclusive, healthier and thriving Australia. Everyone has the right to enjoy sport.

The money we raise is granted to fund programs designed to increase healthy activity levels and grow participation in sport. Funds are distributed to support projects that improve access to sport for a range of people and communities.  We focus on helping kids get active, on breaking down the barriers of entry for women, and on bringing more diversity to sport and access for all.

Sports grants

We want to get kids off the couch and on to the playing field. Active kids are healthier, less likely to be obese and more likely to become active adults.

Everyone has a right to enjoy sport regardless of their ability, or their cultural, social or economic background.

Women and girls face unique barriers to sport participation, yet deserve the same opportunities.

We help fund community-based organisations, schools and clubs to boost participation in grassroot and community sport.
