Blind Sports SA are aiming to develop a mobile phone app designed to provide a ‘one stop shop’ to increase participation rates of people with a disability in sports & recreational activities. Currently it can be difficult to identify sport and recreational activities that are happening or clubs and activities that are disability friendly. This new app would provide an opportunity for clubs and associations to promote their sport and recreational activities, locate volunteers to assist and enable participants to identify inclusive activities and disability accessible clubs, gyms & recreation centres that have the capacity to keep them physically active.

The app will also contain the functionality to identify and link up with public

transport, Taxi, Rideshare and other transport options, e.g. volunteer drivers. The app would provide clear directions on how to get to location, e.g. bus number, stop and time whilst also sending a notification to the activity coach that someone was on the way, so they could meet them at the drop off location.

In the future the plan would be to also utilise 'bindimaps.com' functionality to increase the number of available locations within SA using indoor navigation, making it easier, in particular for people who are blind or vision impaired to

navigate within gyms and recreational facilities and therefore increased willingness to be active.
