Collegians has a long and strong history within the Western Australian Amateur Football League, first established in 1948, with our first premiership coming in 1952 and out latest in 2022. That success has been built on and off the field by the contributions of our players, members and supporters.
In 1972 we moved to David Cruickshank Reserve, the year our current lights were installed. In 2016 the clubrooms were redeveloped and three light towers removed as part of the project, with the intent to upgrade to full field lighting over the following years. For various reasons that upgrade was postponed, but we have continued to advocate for the project. For the safety of our players and the benefit of the whole community it is critical that we have the lights upgraded to meet the current Australian Standards.
Our member base and all past players and supporters are 100% behind the project to the extent we will ensure funding of the project and have commitments from various members to support the project. Our affiliated junior club has committed to a share of the funding and we have multiple fundraising events and initiatives planned to ensure full project cost are covered.
All council approvals have been gained and the lighting project is on track to be delivered in October this year. The electrical design has been completed, geotechnical analysis completed to verify footing design and the tenders for construction will be issued shortly to the market.
Our focus now switches to funding the project. We have already received a $30,000 grant from the West Australian Football Commission, and in May we lodged our application under the Club Night Lights Program with the State Government that could fund up to half the project, but even if successful we will still need to fund around $150,000 ourselves.
A huge amount of work has gone into planning for our Business Lunch on August 9th which will generate funds for the project but we are now reaching out to the Brutal Blues community for support.
There are a number of ways to support the project, donations can be made direct to our club account and we will have a range of sponsorship packages available outside of the ASF, please contact the club for further details. Payments can also be made via our Square account or over the bar at home games, and we are also registering with the Australian Sports Foundation to facilitate tax-deductible donations.
