Lake Keepit Sailing Club was established in 1960 and was built and run by volunteers since that time. The Club runs Learn to Sail courses during school holiday in spring and summer each year run by accredited trainers and volunteers from the Lake Keepit Sailing Club assisting. The Club encourages the parents to participate in the Learn to Sail Courses with the children as this normally allows for the whole family to be involved and continue sailing after the course.
Lake Keepit Sailing Club is the only sailing club in the Northwest area of NSW that provides.
the Discover Sailing Centre with accredited sailing instructors that promotes Learn to sail
courses focus on families to encourage Women and Girls to participate in sailing on the lake.
The club is a registered not-for-profit organisation and is run entirely by volunteers.
The club objective is to promote sailing for everyone and provide boats for learn to sail
course for families to allow them to learn the fundamentals of sailing without having to
purchase a boat first.
The volunteers are spending hundreds of hours a month on club improvements with
new women's change rooms to provide better access to experience sailing in a safe
environment.
Why is the club raising funds.
The club believes that the coming years will be harder for families to get into sailing due to the rising cost of living and will out some financial assistance from fundraising by the club they will miss out on the opportunity to learn to sail.
The club would like to make the Learn to sail course more accessible for Women, Girls, boys, and families by raising funds to pay for 50% of the normal Learn to sail course cost of $50 per family for a three-day training course. With the available funds $25 per family will be paid by the club and the family will only be required to pay $25 for the course to cover one adult individual or the whole family. This cost is already at a discounted rate compared to other sailing club in other places.
The adult individuals or families can return for additional course to encourage the Sailer to learn more skills and become more competent at sailing different boats.
Ongoing Training and support.
Lake Keepit Sailing club members sail at Keepit dam most Sundays from September to June each year. The Club normally holder two regatta’s each year with the major regatta in June called the Keepit Kool where up to about 100 boats participate each year from all over NSW. Sailing calendars are available on the website link at the bottom of the page.
The club would like to support the participants from the Learn to sail courses to continue sailing with the Club on Sundays to enjoy the feeling of sailing at the dam with other friendly Sailers.
Lake Keepit Sailing club is fundraising to also contribute 50% of the first-year sailing membership for the participant from the current or previous year learn to sailing courses, given the available funds at the time of application. Membership at the club could be as a Junior Sailer or for full sailing members.
More details about the club and the learn to sail courses are available on our website https://www.lakekeepitsailingclub.com.au/home
