In August 2024 Daniel began his quest to qualify for the Olympics. He fences for his school, Sydney Boys High School and is Senior Sabre Captain, his club, Marrickville Marauders Fencing Club and with the Australian Men’s Sabre Fencing Team since 2021. He is 1st Cadets U17, 1st Juniors U20 nationally and state, 4th nationally in Opens and 1st in the state in Opens. He has seven international medals, his most recent, Silver (individual) from his first European Fencing Confederation (EFC) competition, Cadet U17 X Ciudad de Segovia following his 2024 Commonwealth Fencing Championships Junior U20 Bronze individual and Junior U20 Gold teams. Qualifying for the Olympics means participating in and doing well at as many national and international competitions as possible. Fencing in Australia is not a funded sport, the costs for training, equipment, coaching, travel, competition and medical fees are met by the athlete, including when they represent Australia. All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible and have already made such a difference both in encouragement and practical support, thank you so much.

Daniel is using the funds to participate in international training and competitions with elite athletes to improve his performance. Through Fund A Fencer, Daniel was able to attend the Christian Bauer and Aldo Montano Academy in Padova, Italy, a month-long invitation only program in January 2025, where he trained with Olympians and competed in Europe. At the 2025 Asian Junior and Cadet Championships in Kuwait in February, Daniel was 7th in Cadets and 30 in Juniors (U20). On returning to Australia he was on a plane the next day and is National Champion Juniors (U20). The World Championships in Wuxi, China were held in April and the day before the tournament started, a significant training injury but with the gracious and generous support of the American medical team, competition was possible with good rankings, some good wins and lots learnt. Now, the focus is on domestic competitions and HSC, Daniel's final year of school.

Daniel started fencing at school for his Friday sport at a NSW public primary school. It was at the suggestion of his Year 5 classroom teacher. He loved it. Three days later he was at his first session of his eight-week beginner course with the Marrickville Marauders Fencing Club. Competitions started for Daniel later that same year and haven't stopped.
