Whether playing it or watching it, most of us love sport.
What you might not know is that our changing climate is impacting sport in a significant way.
- Drought means there is no water for playing fields.
- Increasing temperatures leads to heatstroke, health issues and cancelled games.
- More intense storms and floods are making sports grounds unplayable.
- Bushfires impact local communities, increased lightning strikes prevent play, and even increased allergy levels are affecting many more people who playing outdoor sports.
Major national and international events are seeing the impacts and making schedule changes due to heatwaves, players collapsing, bushfire smoke, lightning, and hailstorms.
Events such as The Australian Open, the Ashes, World Athletics Championships and even F1 Grand Prix events have been impacted. And regional communities - where sport is the hub of the community - have been devastated by floods, drought and bushfires.
At Sports Environment Alliance we've been supporting sporting organisations for more than eight years to protect our places to play. We provide training, education, webinars, conferences and other resources for sporting organisations so they can be inspired, motivated and educated to take action, and build resilience for the future of both sport, and for us all. Millions of people connect into sport each week, so we know we can make a difference!
Having just experienced the hottest year on record, now more than ever we need to develop environmental and climate education and training for sport. The resources we develop will put environmental and climate education at the heart of sport, to help sport take action, and provide a better future for all participants.
But we can’t do it alone. Your tax-deductible donation will contribute to the development of resources and educational events for all levels of sport to help them on this journey.
Join us, deliver some amazing social impact, and help us enable sport to have a future.
