Visit websiteThe Tarmac Junior Development Program is a unique driver training program for young people who want to compete in motorsport. It is designed to teach and up-skill young people in driving and safety techniques for motorsport competition.
Run over 4 days, the students who successfully complete the program are better equipped to compete in a professional and consistent manner in the increasingly complex world of motorsport.
The Tarmac Junior Development Program is open to anyone who is eligible to hold a Motorsport Australia Junior Speed Licence (14 to 17 years old).
Previous driving experience is not essential but it is definitely an advantage. However, we are looking for any young people who are passionate about motorsport and wish to compete in motorsport events.
Each of the first 3 days of the program consist of the following activities:
· Classroom theory training sessions
· Workshops and special presentations
· On-track driver tuition sessions
The fourth day of the program is the students first opportunity to practice their newly learned skills at a Super Sprint meeting.
The workshops cover such things as using a fire extinguisher, wheel alignment, brakes maintenance and basic car maintenance.
The preparation of the cars for competition is completed by the students at the start of every day.
The students can also participate in the maintenance of the cars during and after the program, further enhancing their mechanical knowledge and skills.
After successfully completing the program the students are able to hire one of the cars to compete in either a Super Sprint, Modern Regularity, Hillclimb or Motorkhana, but no off-road events.
Previous students are also able to adopt a car for a year and enter as many events as they wish, until the car is needed again for the next program.
Safety is always our number one priority. We are always improving the safety of our training cars, both for the participant and the driver trainer. To continue this, we need to invest in the following
· Racing seats - One way to improve safety is to invest in purpose built racing seats. Race seats are designed to reduce lateral movement, cushion your body from impacts and improve additional support in areas where you need it the most.
· Racing harnesses - a racing harness keeps you safe by covering all of the key areas of the body and securing you against the racing seat to help absorb and nullify the effects of any impact
· Fabrication of Harness bars – A harness bar mounts behind the front seats to allow the installation of a racing style 4 or 5 point seat belt, also called a harness. Racing harnesses provide much improved safety and security to the driver and passenger in a vehicle, and by keeping the driver firmly glued to their seat they also can help improve car control. A harness bar provides the ideal anchor point for the shoulder straps to attach to. Without the expense of installing a roll cage or roll bar. They will give us added safety for the participant and the driver trainer.
