After a 5-year hiatus from major competitions, Te Waka is rebuilding its strength and determination and celebrated a very successful 2023 Queensland State Titles (6 gold, 5 silver) and Australian Championships (2 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze).

Te Waka Dragons is heading to Perth WA in April 2024 to compete at the 5-day Australian National Championships (AusChamps). AusChamps is Australia’s premier Dragon Boating event in which clubs from all states compete against one another for the title of National Champion. The AusChamps is an annual event, and is held in a different State/Territory each year. The championships attract approximately 2,500-3,000 competitors from clubs all around the country to participate in club vs club and State vs State races.

More than 50 Te Waka paddlers hope to travel to Perth to retain our world title qualifications for the 14th Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) in the Senior A Women's and Senior A Mixed crew categories. We will also be looking to add to our medal tally on the national stage, with the added hope of qualifying in further categories for the CCWC. The CCWC will be held in Ravenna, Italy in September 2024 and 45 paddlers from Te Waka hope to compete in this prestigious competition, along with over 6,000 athletes from 75 nations.

Both of these competitions are wholly self-funded by crew members and Te Waka’s goal for this project is to raise funds to subsidise the costs towards air travel, accommodation, ground transport, race fees, and race uniforms for both Perth and Italy.

Our fundraising target is $100,000 and by supporting Te Waka Dragons, you will be helping to alleviate the financial pressure on our team of highly dedicated and passionate crew members, allowing every deserving paddler to compete and represent their club, state and country.

Every dollar will count in making this team the best version of themselves and we greatly appreciate any contribution big or small and the incredible generosity of those making these contributions.

We sincerely appreciate your consideration and thank you for your support as Te Waka Dragons aims to bring home the gold!
