The Tiwi Bombers Football Club is an island based indigenous sporting club formed 16 years ago to participate in the mainland state league Premier grade competition of the Northern Territory Football League. The club formation was motivated by the community desire to provide a pathway for island youth which had the highest Indigenous youth suicide rate per population size in Australia but more needs to be done. This season we have introduced a Women's team in to the competition to create the same opportunities for our females. The teams plays from October through until March (Tropical Wet Season) travelling by ferry and air charter weekly from the Tiwi Islands to Darwin. The teams is drawn from a population of approximately 2,500 based at 4 main communities being Wurrimyanga, Pularumpi, Milikapiti and Ranku located on the Bathurst and Melville Islands.

Our goal is the operation and development of a community owned and driven sporting club created to deliver programs to address major Indigenous social issues including youth suicide, alcohol abuse, improve education outcomes, improve health outcomes and reduce unemployment levels.

We currently have 2 sides in the NTFL - A Men's Premier League team and Women's Premier League team. We want the number of teams to increase, we would love an U/16 Boys and Girl's team but with that comes added financial pressure. However the positive social outcomes of having this team far outweighs the financial pressure it creates. Junior teams allow our children to play for our club, belong to something, something to be proud of and gives them access to something they are extremely good at each week, improving self worth, allowing these children to feel confident which is proven to reduce crime, increase health and education outcomes.

We are looking to attract 500 Foundation Supporters which will help set the Foundation of the Football Club and continue to be the positive vehicle for our Communities.
