The Wendouree-Ballarat Rowing Club provides a Junior Rowing Program for local Ballarat junior aged rowers to train to achieve their rowing aspirations. We have 50+ athletes aged from 11 through to 23 competing regularly at all levels of competition.

In late April 2023 Ballarat achieved something that hasn’t happened in 160 years of rowing on Lake Wendouree. For the first time a Ballarat based crew and coach have been selected to train in Ballarat for the World Rowing Under 19 Championships. Katie Jackson, Lucy Richardson and Jamie McDonald (coach) are an incredibly talented and hardworking team and all representing the Wendouree-Ballarat Rowing Club. Their example provides an achievable outcome for our Junior Rower’s to aspire to.

With multiple world and Olympic medallists starting their rowing career in Ballarat, we have never had a fully Ballarat based crew selected on the national team. With a belief that a national crew could be based here, they set their plan in place in 2022 to foster the success they have had in 2023.
