About the ASF

The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) was established by the Australian Government in 1986, after the Australian Sports Commission Act 1985 called for the creation of a company to support the development of sport in Australia. Our goal is to provide direct and indirect assistance to sporting organisations which need to draw on the strength of their community through fundraising, a method which has proven very successful in the past.

Australian communities from the Northern Territory to Tasmania have a deep appreciation for local sports clubs and athletes, but many of these groups lack the expertise and tools to properly channel that support into much-needed cash. ASF help out by lending fundraisers our legal taxation status as a Deductible Gift Recipient, as well as fundraising kits, advice, and even staff to help ensure they can meet their mark. By growing these community groups, we sustain Australian communities from the inner suburbs of Brisbane or Melbourne, out to regional towns.

Our mission is to raise money for Australian sport

We work with the Australian sporting community to raise funds for Australian sport through our Fundraising4Sport program and we provide small grants to community and grassroots sporting organisations to grow participation in sport through our Giving4Grassroots™ fund. We support thousands of sporting groups across a huge variety of sports, from our national game through to more niche pursuits such as Dragon Boating, Real Tennis, Croquet and Touch Football. We take your sport as seriously as you do, and we are ready to help you build a fundraising effort to support it.

The ASF is supported by the Australian Sports Commission and is located on the Australian Institute of Sport campus in Canberra. The ASF is a non-profit company limited by guarantee and has an independent Board of Directors and a team of staff who are passionate about sport and dedicated to helping community and sporting organisations throughout Australia. The ASF’s listing in the Income Tax Assessment Act (ITAA) 1997 as a Deductible Gift Recipient enables donations of $2 or more to be tax deductible. By channelling donations to your fundraiser through the ASF, you can offer donators tax returns and help to bring in more support for your cause.
