    Aidan's Journey

Aidan Wilson is a member of the Australian U/18 National Squad — the top tier of the national program, where coaches identify athletes with an elevated current level of performance and readiness for heightened development.

In 2026 he earned his place in the Australian U/18 squad as a bottom-age player, selected alongside athletes up to a year older than him. At club level he plays for the UNSW Wests U/18 Men's team, and at the 2026 Australian Youth Championships in Brisbane he was part of a squad that tested itself against the best U/18 teams in the country. Aidan's achievements are even more significant when you consider he does all of this from Orange, NSW - traveling 1000km or more each week.

The next step in his development is a return to the United States — the largest and most competitive Water Polo environment in the world.

The next step in his development is an extended block of training and competition in the United States — the largest and most competitive water polo environment in the world.

Why the USA — and why now

"Last year I spent three months with the club, played Junior Olympics alongside my Kern teammates, and came home a different player — the coaching and competition directly contributed to me earning selection in the Australian U/18 National Squad as a bottom-age player. That's what Kern Premier does for its athletes, and it's why I'm going back." — Aidan

From 16 May to 1 August 2026, Aidan will be based in Bakersfield, California, training and competing with Kern Premier Water Polo — a USA Water Polo club with a long track record of developing athletes who go on to compete at Junior Olympics, collegiate and Olympic Development Program level. This is Aidan's second season with the club, and he rejoins teammates and coaches he already knows well.

Over two and a half months he will:

    • Train daily with Kern Premier's U/16 boys program, including morning water sessions, strength and conditioning, and game-play
    • Play in a series of lead-up tournaments across California as preparation
    • Compete at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics in Orange County, California, from 23–26 July 2026 — the largest age-group water polo tournament in the world, where the top clubs in the United States meet on the national stage

For a young Australian player, training week-in, week-out against the depth of American Water Polo is an experience that's impossible to replicate at home. It accelerates the development of game sense, physicality and decision-making that show up on return to the Australian program — and it opens doors to US collegiate pathways that matter for the next stage of his career.

    How your donation helps

This USA campaign is largely self-funded. Every contribution, large or small, goes directly toward:

    • International travel — return flights between Sydney and California
    • Accommodation and living costs — 2.5 months based in Bakersfield
    • Club and program fees — Kern Premier training fees and USA Water Polo Gold membership
    • Tournament fees — Junior Olympics entry, qualifying events and lead-up tournaments
    • Interstate and in-country travel — transport, accommodation and meals for Junior Olympics in Orange County and other away fixtures
    • Equipment and team gear — caps, togs, training kit and club uniforms

Donations through the Australian Sports Foundation are fully tax-deductible, and funds are released directly toward the expenses outlined above.

    Making it happen

Aidan has been preparing for this trip for nine months — balancing travel of over 1000km per week, school, UNSW Wests training, national squad commitments and the Australian Youth Championships in Brisbane. He is supported by his coaches, teammates and family, but the cost of an extended overseas training and competition block is significant, and your help will make a real difference.

Supporters will receive regular updates through the campaign — including tournament results, training reflections and a wrap-up from Junior Olympics — so everyone who contributes can follow the journey in real time.

    Join the journey

Please consider supporting Aidan's 2026 Water Polo Development Fund. Your tax-deductible donation helps him train, travel and compete at one of the highest levels of age-group Water Polo in the world, and represent his local town, club, state and country with pride.

Thank you for backing Aidan — and for backing the next generation of Australian water polo.
