    Hi I am Alana Mehes

    I am 19 + years old.

My dream to represent Australia in a sport began at the age of 10, while watching the Olympic games in 2016. While watching the Olympic games, I dreamt of winning a Gold Medal for Australia and making my parents and my country proud of me.

Around seven years ago I discovered Underwater Hockey. it was then that my extreme love for swimming and being in the water became a precursor to my passion and a brilliant fit with this very unusual sport.

I started by playing at a club level. Then I soon progressed to a state level and finally a national level. Playing for Cairns and Queensland teams. There have been many wins, but it was through the losses and disappointments that I learnt the most lessons. In 2024 we travelled to New Zealand and lost every match against them. In 2024 I was selected to play in the under 19 Australian Underwater Hockey Women’s team to represent Australia in the 6th World Championships in Malaysia. I learnt many lessons such as the need for perseverance, determination, and built a passion for achieving my dream of winning a gold medal. I learnt to set goals and work hard training while studying and doing year 12, and holding down a part time job. Despite the requirements for my crazy training regime of 4 gym sessions, 3-4 swimming sessions and 3 underwater hockey sessions a week I completed my year 12 in 2024. The biggest lesson I learnt was that the only way to achieve something if you want it bad enough was to work really hard and never stop dreaming.

At the worlds in July 2024 we made it in to the finals against France and won the match. We had come a long way. We manage to create a historic win and bring home Gold medals. My dream coming true. I had won a Gold medal for my beloved country.

I am currently attending Griffith university doing a Bachelor of Editing and directing in film and television, which I love. I would love to become a famous Australian female film director and producer. I am currently training hard in Underwater hockey, juggling uni and have a part time job.

It is my passion to represent Australia and win a gold medal again in Turkey in the Under 24 women's team in 2026 and need to raise around $8500-$10000. Underwater hockey is a self-funded sport with no major sponsorship. Training multiple times per week as well as traveling around Australia and to Turkey to attend competitions and training camps can become very costly. Your donations go towards sporting equipment such as mask, fins, uniform, travel, accommodation, entry fees, food while competing and on training camps, and numerous incidentals athletes pay for. If you would like to support me to achieve my dream by making a donation below I would like to thank you in advance. Much love for your continued support
