ABOUT Alice and Klara Travlos
Hi everyone, we are Alice and Klara Travlos, sisters from Perth and passionate 29er sailors. We are delighted to share that we have qualified to represent Australia at the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships, to be held in Vilamoura, Portugal this December. This achievement reflects the support of the amazing community around us.
Our Journey So Far
Last year, we travelled to Portugal for our first Youth Sailing World Championships, an incredible experience that was equally challenging and rewarding. The event is the pinnacle of youth sailing where the top teams from each youth Olympic class represent their country. We learned what it means to perform under pressure and race in extreme conditions. One of our proudest moments was being one of only six boats to finish a race in 30‑knot gusts and huge waves, trusting the windy‑weather training we’d done at home in Fremantle and Freshwater Bay. We also discovered the spirit of the event, the friendships, the shared passion, and the tradition of each country pouring water from their home venue into a single aquarium, symbolising that we are all connected by the same ocean.
Our Sailing Community
We are active members of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (RFBYC), Fremantle Sailing Club (FSC), and Perth Dinghy Sailing Club (PDSC). We coach learn‑to‑sail programs, volunteer on junior committees, and support initiatives like Girls to the Front and the tackers training programs that helped shape our own pathway. We learned to sail at an RFBYC Tackers course, fell in love with the sport at Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club, and discovered our passion for skiff racing at PDSC before joining the RFBYC and FSC 29er squads. We are proud to give back to the clubs that raised us.
What’s Ahead in 2026
From 12–20 December, we will race against the world’s top female youth 29er sailors. The Youth Worlds is entirely self‑funded, and the cost of travelling to Portugal with the Australian team is $11,000 per sailor, a total of $22,000 for our team. This does not include visas and training camps leading up to the event. This is a huge financial challenge and we are very grateful for any support that helps us reach the start line. All donations are tax‑deductible.
Thank You
We are extremely grateful to our coaches, the WA and Aus 29er squad, clubs, family, and friends who have supported us on this journey. We cannot thank our community enough for their contributions and especially to all the sailing parents and volunteers, the true heroes of our sport.
Thank you for helping us chase our dream and for supporting two young West Aussie sailors determined to give back to the sport we love.
