Road to the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships Alice is Representing Australia in the 29er Class – Vilamoura, PortugalI'm incredibly fortunate to have earned the honour of representing Australia at the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal this December. After a fiercely contested national selection series in New South Wales, I finished in the top female team and secured my place on the Australian Youth Team for the second year in a row.I am excited to test myself against the best youth sailors in the world, racing female teams from more than 70 nations in one of the most competitive youth fleets globally. My JourneyI grew up sailing on the Swan River and am a proud member of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Fremantle Sailing Club, and Perth Dinghy Sailing Club. Sailing has shaped my life, and I try to give back to the sport by coaching junior sailors, volunteering at club events, and helping create a positive environment for younger athletes. My pathway has been a little unconventional. I started in Optis but never learnt to race until after my first attempt in a 29er that left me with more than a few bruises. Following advice, I discovered my passion for skiffs when I learned to sail a JD at PDSC. That experience changed everything. I used every lesson from the JD to prepare myself to take on the 29er again. Less than twelve months later, I was hooked. My journey has been built through years of training with the WA 29er squad, countless hours on the water balancing school, coaching, and competition. Without the support of our clubs, coaches, families, and the WA sailing community, I would not be in this most fortunate position. This year’s selection means a lot to me. It reflects not only my performance, but also my resilience, teamwork, and commitment to representing Australia with pride. My OpportunityFrom 12–20 December, I will compete in Portugal against the world’s top youth female 29er teams. The Youth Worlds is considered the pinnacle event for youth sailing, and many Olympians began their careers on this stage. This event gives me the chance to race at the highest level of youth sailing, learn from world‑class coaches, build international experience ahead of senior pathways and to represent Australia and Western Australia on the world stage Why I Need SupportMy Youth Worlds campaign isn’t just a single event. It has been a long road that began back in January, racing at the 29er Nationals in Hobart. The regatta was a turning point for me, strengthening my resolve, and leading to working closely with my coaches and teammates as I prepared for the selection event. Before the selection I spent several days in New South Wales training and acclimatising to the local conditions before the selection series began. Now that I have been selected, the challenges continue. Over the next few months I need to balance WACE exams and our GATE music commitments while still finding time to train with purpose. To prepare, I need to fund coaching, boat maintenance, preparation regattas in NSW and pre‑event training and racing in Portugal. The Youth Worlds component alone is $22,000, but the full campaign, including preparation, coaching, equipment, and lead‑up regattas, is estimated to be an additional $10,000–$15,000.Every contribution helps me stay focused, stay competitive, and represent Australia at my best. All donations through this ASF page are tax‑deductible. Your Support Makes a Real DifferenceBy supporting me, you are helping a hardworking young athlete chase a dream she has built over many years. You are also supporting the next generation of Australian sailors and young women who coach, volunteer, mentor, and inspire others in the community.I am proud to represent Australia. I am proud to represent my local community. And I would be honoured to have your support on this jouney.
