    ABOUT Alice Buchanan

    Sandy Bay, TAS

Hi, my name is Alice Buchanan, and I am an Australian 470 sailor campaigning for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

After spending a few years away from competitive sailing, I decided to return to the sport, driven by my passion for high-performance racing. Previously, I achieved success in the youth 29er class, becoming a two-time female Australian National Champion. Stepping away from competition made me realise how much I missed the intensity and challenge of elite sailing, and I have thoroughly enjoyed returning to the boat and taking my performance to the next level.

I am currently sailing the 470 Mixed dinghy with Angus Higgins from Adelaide, South Australia. We have been training full-time throughout the year and recently competed at the Japanese 470 National Championships, our first international event together, where we placed 37th out of 100 boats. This result provided valuable experience and confidence as we continue to develop as a team.

In 2026, we plan to campaign in Europe and internationally, competing in key events including:

    • 470 European Championships (Portugal)
    • Princess Sofia Regatta (Spain)
    • Semaine Olympique Française (France)
    • 470 World Championships (Japan)

These regattas are critical opportunities to race against the world’s best and accelerate our development toward Olympic qualification.

To represent Australia at this level, financial support is required for equipment, coaching, international travel, accommodation, and logistical costs. As I become increasingly independent and self-fund my campaign, balancing these expenses alongside the significant time commitment of training, boat preparation, and campaign organisation presents a considerable challenge.

I am extremely grateful for any support, as it plays a vital role in making this campaign possible and helping me pursue my goal of representing Australia on the world stage.
