ABOUT Anna Twining
I fell in love with archery as a sport 10 years ago after doing a beginner course at Eden Field Archers. Since then, I’ve worked hard and embraced all the opportunities I’ve been given to represent my club, state and country in my amazing sport.
In 2023, I was lucky enough to represent Australia in the Trans Tasman Challenge, the World Oceania Archery Championships and the World Youth Archery Championships. I came away with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, but the biggest takeaway was the amazing memories and experiences which have pushed me to work even harder and pursue more of these opportunities.
After graduating high school last year with a 98 ATAR and year 12 dux, I am taking advantage of a gap year this year to take as many international competition opportunities as I possibly can.
I started the year off by representing Australia at Asia Cup 1 - Thailand. I had an amazing experience which inspired me to push for more in the remainder of the year.
I’ve been given the amazing opportunity to attend the World Archery Championships in Korea.
As it’s my last year shooting as a junior, I’m also determined to make it to the World Youth Archery Championships in Winnipeg, Canada.
Before these events, I’m aiming to use Asia Cup 2 - Singapore to increase my international experience and develop myself as an up and coming Australian athlete.
As a member of a sport with very limited funding, it is very difficult to make it to these self-funded events. As compound was up until recently a non-Olympic discipline, this makes it even harder, especially as a young person working a minimum wage job. Any contributions mean the world to me, as they allow me to spend less time at work and more time on the range, working hard to become the best version of myself as an Australian athlete.
