ABOUT Australian Disc Golf Inc

West Ryde, NSW

We are the official representative in Australia for two of the world’s largest Flying Disc bodies. The Australian Flying Disc Association (AFDA) with over 3,000 members and the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) with over 70,000 active worldwide members. We are also affiliated with WFDF. We are run by players for players. We support any Disc Golf activity from any group in Australia whilst operating constitutionally as a branch of AFDA with financial and decision making autonomy. As such we are part of an impressive infrastructure with automatic insurance, Federal recognition among other aspects.

Disc golf is experiencing rapid growth in Australia, with 70 courses nationwide (95% free to play). The sport requires minimal equipment—a single disc costs around $25 and lasts decades—making it one of the most affordable recreational activities available. The appeal lies in its accessibility: people of all ages and abilities can participate, as it's easy to learn but challenging to master. It bridges casual play and competitive sport, attracting those who may not be drawn to traditional organised sports.

Beyond recreation, disc golf courses provide community benefits. They activate public spaces with positive activity, reducing antisocial behaviour through passive surveillance. The sport fosters a values-based community emphasising cooperation, respect for park users, and environmental stewardship. From an infrastructure perspective, disc golf courses are remarkably cost-effective (roughly 1/16th the cost of a basic skate park) and environmentally low-impact, requiring only tee-pads, baskets, and signage among existing trees. This combination of affordability, accessibility, health benefits, and community activation makes disc golf an increasingly popular solution for Australian municipalities seeking inclusive recreational options.

This September, two Australian teams will represent our nation at the WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championships in Lithuania, a huge milestone for disc golf in Australia. International competition doesn't come cheap, with flights, accommodation, and tournament fees adding up quickly for our dedicated athletes. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps make this dream a reality. Your support directly impacts our teams' ability to compete at the highest level. Let's show the world what Australian disc golf is made of! Together, we can get our teams to Lithuania and bring home some pride for the green and gold.
