ABOUT Brendan Corey
G'day! I am Brendan Corey, Australia's most successful speed skater since the famous Steven Bradbury. I am 28 years old and have been competing internationally for 4 years. I qualified for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics during my first international season. My results have rapidly improved each year, with my biggest success; achieving a bronze medal at the 2024 World Championship. I have also had a top 6 finish at each of the three most recent world championships. This was Australia's first World Championship medal in an individual speed skating event in 40 years. I hope my success in the sport will help bring recognition to speed skating within Australia. I aim to strive for success leading up to the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics and hope to secure more medals for Australia. But my journey has not always been easy. At the 2025 world championship I suffered a major injury when a competitors blade made contact with my neck during a quarter final race. I suffered a fractured thyroid cartilage and two lacerations to my neck. Thankfully, the blade missed major blood vessels and my larynx and I am back training again.
I am creating this fund raising campaign to help me in my athletic pursuit towards the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics. I will be training overseas until the next Olympics and any donation will significantly help to cover the costs of living on the other side of the world! To give myself the best opportunity to perform at my best I need to train overseas since Australia does not have a propery training facility (boardless ice rink). The Italian Olympic speed skating team has graciously allowed me to join their training group leading up to the Olympics.
