ABOUT Calypso Sheridan
I have never been defined by a single sport, discipline, or limitation. I have always been drawn to the challenge of becoming more - building the skills, resilience, and mindset required to take on whatever comes next.
Modern Pentathlon is the ultimate expression of that pursuit. It rewards athletes who can adapt, learn, and perform under pressure across five very different disciplines: swimming, fencing, obstacle, shooting, and running. It is a sport that demands versatility, and I believe my entire athletic journey has been quietly preparing me for this challenge.
I grew up as a competitive swimmer, becoming an Australian national champion in the 400IM, representing Australia internationally multiple times, and earning NCAA All-American honours during my time competing in the United States. But I always knew I was more than just a swimmer. I was drawn to challenges that combined different abilities and forced me to grow.
After swimming, I transitioned into endurance and multisport competition, becoming a HYROX Elite 15 athlete, qualifying for Norseman, and continuing to push the boundaries of what I could achieve across different physical disciplines. Looking back, I spent years unknowingly building the foundation for Modern Pentathlon: the aerobic engine, the ability to suffer, the competitive mindset, and the confidence to step into unfamiliar environments and learn quickly.
I already have the engine. Now I am building the weapons.
My strength in swimming, running, and obstacle competition has given me a strong foundation, and I am now rapidly developing the technical skills required to compete at the highest level in fencing and shooting. In my first international season, I recorded the second-fastest swim discipline performance at the Budapest World Cup, briefly held the world record for the obstacle discipline in Bulgaria, and have consistently ranked among the top obstacle athletes internationally.
What excites me most about this journey is the process of improvement. My background in computer science, aerospace engineering, and quantitative finance has shaped how I approach sport: I analyse, adapt, and relentlessly search for ways to unlock better performance. I thrive under pressure, embrace difficult challenges, and believe that progress comes from deliberately attacking weaknesses.
My goal is to represent Australia at the highest level of Modern Pentathlon and build toward an Olympic medal opportunity at Los Angeles 2028. I know the pathway ahead will require commitment, creativity, and access to the right training environments - but I have built my career around pursuing ambitious goals and finding a way to achieve them.
Follow my journey as I take on the challenge of becoming Australia's next Olympic Modern Pentathlete.
