ABOUT Canberra Pirates Ice Hockey Club
About us
The Canberra Pirates are the highest-level women’s ice hockey team in the Canberra region. Established in 2014, the Pirates were formed with a clear purpose: to create a performance pathway for women in the ACT to compete at the highest levels of Australian ice hockey.
Our Competition
The Pirates compete annually in the Ice Hockey NSW (IHNSW) Women’s League, facing top teams from across Canberra, Sydney, and Newcastle. The season runs from March to September, featuring home and away fixtures that challenge athletes in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Our Achievements
IHNSW Women’s League Champions – 2025
Grand Finalists – 2022, 2023 & 2024
In 2025, the Pirates made club history by claiming their first IHNSW Women’s League Championship, following three consecutive years as Grand Finalists. This sustained success reflects the club’s commitment to development, professionalism, and excellence on the ice.
Our Vision
At the heart of the Canberra Pirates is a long-term vision:
to build a multi-level development pathway for girls and women in the ACT, supporting athletes from grassroots participation through to elite competition.
The Pirates are committed to:
- Developing high-performance female athletes
- Creating leadership opportunities for women in sport
- Supporting progression toward the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL)
- Strengthening women’s ice hockey in Canberra and the broader region
More Than a Team
The Canberra Pirates are more than a competitive team — we are a community built on inclusion, ambition, and resilience. We are proud to represent Canberra on the ice and to inspire the next generation of female ice hockey players.
