Support the Chargers – Growing Junior Rugby on the Cassowary Coast

We welcome boys and girls from Under 9s through to Under 17s, offering a fun, family-friendly sport where every player has an important role on the field and everyone gets a chance with the ball. No matter your size, skill level, or experience – there’s a place for you in rugby.

Rugby is also a fantastic offseason sport. It’s a chance for kids to learn new skills, make new friends, and stay fit while having fun. Rugby complements rugby league brilliantly, with many high-level players (such as Israel Folau, Karmichael Hunt, and Lote Tuqiri) having built careers across both codes. For those looking for a pathway in rugby, opportunities exist year-round through representative competitions in FNQ, NQ, Qld Country and beyond.

Our season runs in Term 4 each year as part of the FNQ Rugby competition, with games played in Cairns on Friday nights and two special country rounds in Innisfail and on the Tablelands. It’s an incredible way for kids to stay active, make friends, and finish the week in a positive and supportive environment.

To make rugby more accessible for local families, we’re raising funds to:

• Help cover registration costs for kids who would otherwise miss out
• Provide playing kits and equipment
• Offer opportunities for tours and development activities
• Hire a bus to transport players to Cairns and country games, easing the travel burden on parents
