ABOUT Chris Dixon
On May 23rd, Chris will line up in Hirosaki, Japan to represent Australia at the Oceania 24 Hour Championships — competing in one of the toughest events in ultra-distance running.
For a runner from the small regional town of Stratford in Gippsland, this opportunity reflects years of consistency and hard work. With the nearest athletics track more than an hour away, most of Chris’ training happens on local roads running around Stratford — building the kilometres the old-fashioned way.
His Running Journey
Chris isn’t new to big challenges.
Over the years he has taken on extreme endurance events, including:
- Running 1,000km from Sydney to Melbourne to raise funds for TLC for Kids
- Running 250km from Melbourne to Stratford in support of Lifeline Gippsland
- Completing a 300km run in 36 hours through the Helping Hands Running Festival, raising $80,000 for Free 3D Hands
- Competing in multiple 100-mile ultra-marathons
- Racing at the AIS 24 Hour Track Invitational, covering 223km
Much of his running has been driven by community and purpose. His daughter, Gracie, was born with a limb difference — something that continues to inspire both his fundraising efforts and his determination to push his limits.
Representing Australia — and Stratford
Being selected in the Australian team is an incredible honour. Unlike many other sports, ultra-distance athletes and their support crew are required to self-fund the opportunity. Flights, accommodation, team uniform, race entry, nutrition and travel expenses are all covered by the athlete and crew member.
Chris is aiming to raise approximately $6,000 to help offset the cost of competing in Japan.
He is incredibly proud to wear the green and gold — and just as proud to represent Stratford and the Gippsland community on the international stage.
Thank you to anyone who is in a position to contribute and help make this opportunity a reality.
Furthermore, if donations exceed the costs of flights, accommodation and expenses targeted to the race. 100% of the remaining donations will be directly donated to The Helping Hands Running Festival.
Every bit of support means the world.
