ABOUT Clay Target Sports Tasmania
Clay Target Sports Tasmania (CTST) is the trading name of the Tasmanian Gun Club Inc., a clay target shooting club with a proud history spanning over a century. To ensure this legacy continues for future generations, we are taking proactive steps to secure our future and enhance our facilities.
Our Club & Our Sport
CTST promotes and facilitates the Olympic and Commonwealth sport of clay target shooting. We focus on participation, safety, community, and learning across disciplines including Down-the-Line, Skeet, Trench, and Five-Stand Sporting. While operating as an independent practice facility, we compete under the framework of the Tasmanian Clay Target Association (TCTA) and the Australian Clay Target Association (ACTA), serving as the Tasmanian State Shooting Ground for TCTA events.
We host competition and practice days and provide coaching, including for school students, in the safe handling of firearms. Our facilities are open to members and suitably licensed visitors, offering an inclusive pastime for male and female participants of all ages, from juniors (12-17) to veterans over 80.
Our Community Impact
CTST is more than a shooting club, we are a community hub that:
·Preserves cultural traditions and promotes responsible firearm use.
·Offers a safe, inclusive sporting outlet for people of all skill levels, including those with physical disabilities.
·Provides significant social benefits: camaraderie, friendship, and relief from social isolation and stress, effectively functioning as a "Community Shed" that supports the general well-being of our members.
·Fosters discipline, mental focus, and social cohesion through shared participation and volunteerism.
·Provides venue hire and corporate days for outside groups.
·Maintains one of Tasmania's few consistently open practice grounds, catering from social members to potential elite competitors aiming for world-stage representation.
Our Two-Phase Fundraising Campaign
Phase 1: Secure Our Land – The Foundation of Our Future ($900,000)
The club owns its 5-hectare site with buildings and trap layouts. However, the critical shot-fall land in front of the traps has been licensed from the neighbouring landowner. To secure the club's long-term future against any adverse changes, we have the opportunity to purchase this shot-fall land, plus a small area for a necessary access road extension, approximately 11 hectares in total. We must raise $900,000 to buy this land and guarantee our future.
Phase 2: Enhance & Maintain Our Facilities
Once our land is secured, funds raised will allow us to:
·Upgrade the clubhouse and toilet facilities, ensuring easy access for people with disabilities.
·Progressively replace aging clay target traps and associated equipment.
·Carry out major maintenance on the grounds and infrastructure.
