ABOUT Cooper Dunlop
Thank you for taking the time to read my story…
I am 17 years old and live 1 hour south of Perth in Western Australia. I have always been someone who just has that insane desire to go fast on 2 wheels.
My parents got me in to BMX at the age of 4 after watching the 2012 Olympics and I quickly became so focused on just trying to be the fastest I could. I developed further into MTB from the age of 10 - but that was all about going downhill as fast as I can over big jumps, road gaps and technical rock gardens.
I didn’t discover Track and Road cycling until quite late. I was 14 years old and went to a Talent Identification testing program that was run by Auscycling and WAIS (Western Australian Institute of Sport) where I qualified for the cycling program. Since then… I have not looked back.
I have won 12 State Titles across three disciplines - Track, Road & CycloCross since my journey of “Curly Bars” and this Lycra World has started. But something I am even more proud of is winning my first ever National Championship Medal at the 2025 Junior Track National Championships in the U17 Men’s Match Sprint.
I have stood on many podiums and there are a few that standout for me. Winning a Bronze Medal at my first Track State Champs in an endurance event the Scratch Race. Being a ‘Sprinter’ I went into this race knowing I was going to be well outside my comfort zone. I have never dug so deep before that race and that was the moment I learned just how far I can start to push my body. It hurt… a lot, but I got through it and that was the moment I realised maybe endurance events are what I should be doing.
Internationally during 2025 I won equal first with another rider from the Netherlands for the Special Points Classification in the largest Junior Road Cycling tour in the world. I also achieved a Bronze in the Malaysian ASEAN International Junior Track Cycling Event.
My goals going forward for the next year is to continue to develop, learn, grow and just embrace all the opportunities that my parents continue to support me through. I know I have massive improvement ahead of me and I am ready to keep pushing myself through any obstacles and all the intense training that is ahead of me.
One day… I aim to be wearing that Green Sprinters jersey in the Tour de France! And to have that Olympic Tattoo displayed proudly on behalf of our Australian community.
