ABOUT Damon Driver

Walkervale, QLD

Damon is a 16 year old young man born with Wiedemann-Steiner Syndrome & CBL Syndrome.

Because of Damon's disability, he had a lot of trouble as a child socialising & finding somewhere he's accepted. That is until Damon joined Special Olympics 7 years ago. Special Olympics is specifically for athletes with an Intellectual Disability or Autism to help them participate in sports while also making friendships and connections.

Damo started as a Basketballer initially but then found his love for Ten Pin Bowling. Damo attends league, training and out of town competitions religiously & it seems his hard work has paid off - he has received the very exciting news that he has been selected to represent Team QLD for Ten Pin Bowling at this years National Games, to be held in Melbourne on 19th-23rd October!

Just like the Olympics & Paralympics, the Special Olympics National Games is only held once every 4 years, showcasing the amazing talents of athletes from all over Australia. Damon is of course ecstatic, but it is going to be costly, total cost being $4900 (this covers team camp, uniform, travel & main meals), not including spending money or unexpected costs.

Together, if we can all band together & show support for a young, up & coming athlete with an intellectual disability, he'll be able to achieve his dreams. Without the worry of finances, Damo can concentrate on his training & getting those strikes! He wants to represent all of QLD well & wear the maroon uniform proudly!

Any assistance would be very much appreciated & we thank you for taking the time to consider Damo's journey
