ABOUT Eleanor Cooney Hunt
I am an Australian long jumper and sprinter, competing both nationally and internationally. I absolutely loved athletics as a junior, focusing mainly on long and triple jump, with a side of beach sprinting. I was in several junior teams for the Australian Little Athletics Championships and the Australian Athletics Junior Championships before moving to Switzerland with my family. While in Switzerland, I continued to compete, placing 1st (TJ) and 2nd (LJ) in the Swiss U18 Championships. However, shortly afterwards, I broke my ankle and was unable to compete in European juniors and continue in the sport due to funding issues.
As a senior athlete, I rediscovered athletics through Melbourne University Athletics Club. I was encouraged to go to UniSport Nationals and compete casually, which reignited my love for the sport. I am so thankful for my coach, Manfred (Manny) Lewandowski, and my wonderful training group (MU Speed Squad) for pushing me to pursue a career in athletics again over the last 2 years. In 2026, my achievements have included placing third in the Open Women's Long Jump at the 2026 edition of the Australian Athletics Championships. I jumped a personal best of 6.47m, which has opened up opportunities to compete internationally over the next few years. I have recently been selected to compete for Australia at the Oceania Championships 2026.
I am working full-time alongside 6 days per week training to financially support my athletics career. I also compete in Victorian Athletic League competitions to develop my sprinting, and recently placed 4th in the final of the 2026 Stawell Gift. I also won the Maryborough Women's Gift and the Ballarat Women's 400m this season.
It is my ultimate goal to represent Australia in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 and in Brisbane in 2032.
