ABOUT Elizabeth Burdis

🏐 My Story

Since the beach facility was built, I have been one of the driving forces behind beach volleyball in the ACT. For years, I’ve worked tirelessly to make the sport accessible — often paying half of the court hire bills myself, running training programs at little or no cost to players, and ensuring that anyone with the passion to play had the opportunity to do so.

But now, rising costs are threatening everything we’ve built. Court hire fees have more than doubled, forcing athletes to pay far more to train. What was once a welcoming, affordable program is at risk of becoming inaccessible to the very athletes it was designed to support.

This January, 14 athletes — 11 of them from Canberra — are heading to New Zealand to compete. Instead of being supported by their governing body, they are being asked to pay $10,000 just to train, and that amount doesn’t even cover the full season. Many simply can’t afford it, and without help, they will miss out on vital opportunities to grow and compete at the highest level.

For six years, I’ve invested thousands into my own coaching qualifications, travel, and event support — never passing those costs onto athletes. But with training costs skyrocketing and travel demands increasing, I can no longer carry this burden alone.

💡 Why I’m Fundraising

Your donation will help keep beach volleyball accessible in the ACT by:

- Helping me continue to cover part of the court hire costs so athletes aren’t forced to shoulder every cent themselves

- Ensuring programs remain open to emerging players, not just those who can afford it

- Assisting with the growing cost of international travel as a coach, so athletes are supported at what are often the biggest events of their careers

Every dollar helps support a sport that means so much to our community.
