ABOUT Ella Licari

Westleigh, NSW

I’m Ella! I was born in Perth, WA, and I’ve been in love with ice hockey since I was old enough to watch my Dad referee games when I was still in single digits. I first stepped onto the ice at 10 years old — that’s 38 years of chasing pucks, making saves, and being part of this incredible sport.

I began my AWIHL career in the 2016/17 season and have since played for both the Sydney Sirens and the Perth Inferno. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of winning gold in the AWIHL, representing Western Australia, New South Wales, and wearing the green and gold for Australia at the World Championships — all honours I will always be grateful for.

Since moving to Sydney in 2015, hockey has continued to be my greatest passion. Playing as a goaltender in the AWIHL is both a privilege and an honour. I believe the name on the front of the jersey is always more important than the name on the back, and I take my role on the team very seriously — providing confidence, trust, and safety to those playing in front of me. Pursuing this sport at a high level in Australia is challenging though, with ice time, travel, equipment, and development opportunities all coming at significant cost — and support for women’s hockey still building momentum.

Through this fundraiser with the Australian Sports Foundation, I’m raising funds to help cover training, competition, and development. My goal isn’t just personal growth — it’s to help raise the profile of women’s hockey here in Australia and show the next generation that they can dream big, too.

Every contribution helps me get closer to achieving those goals, but just as importantly, it supports the growth of women’s hockey in this country. Thank you for being part of that journey with me.
