ABOUT Emelia Surch
In the vibrant landscape of Australian athletics, Emelia Surch is fast emerging as one of the nation’s most dynamic and promising heptathletes. At just 22 years old, she has already represented Australia on multiple international stages and established herself among the country’s elite all-rounders.
A defining moment in her career came at the 2025 World University Games in Germany, where Emelia won bronze in the heptathlon with a personal best of 6068 points—a performance that secured her place as the 8th all-time Australian in the event. Her rise began earlier, at the World U20 Championships in Colombia, where she finished 4th in the long jump with an impressive 6.45m leap, showcasing her exceptional versatility and competitive spirit.
Hailing from Queensland, Emelia’s journey reflects a powerful blend of natural talent, discipline, and resilience. Under the guidance of Olympic gold medallist Glynis Nunn OAM, she trains six days a week across the seven demanding disciplines of the heptathlon—100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and 800m—all while pursuing a nursing degree. Balancing academics and elite sport, she exemplifies determination both on and off the track.
“If Emelia had the funding, we could prioritise preparation, recovery, and training.
I know I have an Olympic athlete who is capable of achieving something very special.”
— Glynis Nunn OAM, Olympic Gold Medallist & Coach
