My name is Emerson Facer. I'm 22 years old, and I'm chasing an Olympic dream.

I'm a member of the Australian Ski Cross Team, and in 2024, I finished 2nd overall at the Australian Championships while earning multiple top 15 finishes on the European Cup circuit. Competing against some of the world's best athletes in my sport.

My goal for this coming season? Break into World Cup competition and represent Australia at the highest level.

What is Ski Cross?

Imagine four athletes launching down a mountain at breakneck speed, navigating jumps, rollers, and tight turns, all fighting for the lead. It's thrilling. It's demanding. And it requires every ounce of skill, strength, and courage I have.

The Reality of Chasing This Dream

Growing up in Australia, a nation not exactly famous for winter sports. It has meant facing unique challenges. Unlike many of my international competitors, I don't have any funded programs or major sponsorships backing me.

To fund my season, I work in an oil and gas refinery, balancing shift work with training, travel, and competition. Every dollar I earn goes toward this dream. Ski Cross is one of Australia's most underfunded sports, and no winter athlete can sustain a professional career on prize money alone. We depend on the generosity of our communities.

Building the Future

Beyond my own journey, I'm passionate about growing this sport. I co-founded Team SXR with fellow national team athlete Kyra Wheatley. A program that connects junior athletes with elite-level coaches. Inspiring the next generation of Australian Ski Cross competitors is just as important to me as my own success.
