    ABOUT Emery Kaison

    Darlinghurst, NSW

    Personal Journey

I grew up in South Western Sydney and attended Hurlstone Agricultural High School, Australian Christian College, and Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. At sixteen, unsafe family circumstances led me to leave home. I lived in youth refuges including St Laurence House and The Salvation Army before moving into my own apartment this year at eighteen.

I first tried skating in high school with friends. What started as a joke about being terrible on the ice quickly became something much bigger. After joining skate school and later training at Macquarie Ice Rink with Chris Stuart, skating became my structure, my outlet, and my way forward during a difficult time. Even while homeless, I stayed committed and competed only five months after starting. The same week I left home was the week I won my first NSW State Championship.

    Skating Journey

I began at Liverpool in skate school, later progressing into private lessons with Chris Stuart. In 2024, Chris transitioned me to Andrew Dodds as my main coach, while still offering guidance. This year, I also began training interstate with coaches in Brisbane and Perth as my competition schedule expanded.

I have advanced divisions each season and performed with Stars On Ice Australia at multiple events. In 2025, I placed first or second in every competition and earned three state titles in one season.

    Training and Coaching

I train primarily at Ice Zoo in Sydney with Andrew Dodds and Chris Stuart. During the season, I also train in Brisbane with Katya, Darian Kapitch, Jordan Dodds, and Emilia, and in Perth with Evgeni and Maria.

My weekly routine includes daily on ice sessions, one or two off ice sessions, two gym sessions, and one or two ballet classes. I train off ice at Emerge Gym with Spencer Goggin and Logan Esau, and I take ballet at Sydney Dance Company to build posture, strength, and musicality.

I am known for combining classical ballet influence with expressive storytelling. My skating features elegant elements like spirals, split jumps, Ina Bauers, butterflies, and strong spins.

Standout programs include Swan Lake, performed over two seasons, and my Bondi Fest program I Love You I'm Sorry. My current program is House of Woodcock.

I choose music that tells a story or captures emotion. I aim for programs that feel unique, personal, and expressive.
