ABOUT Emily Paix
I am Emily, an Australian Paracanoe athlete pursuing my goal of representing Australia at the Paralympic Games.
My Paralympic journey began in 2012 when I attended the London Olympic and Paralympic Games as a spectator. Following this experience I pursued a career in high-performance sport, completing Bachelor's and Master's degrees in sport science in the UK and working as a Sports Biomechanist with British Athletics and Para Athletics. I later completed a PhD at the University of Queensland, specialising in Para athlete classification.
In 2023, following a diagnosis of a rare neurological pain disorder, I underwent an above-knee amputation of my right leg. Just three months later, I got into a kayak for the first time. Despite further medical complications, I returned to training with renewed determination. Within a year, I earned selection to my first Australian Paracanoe squad.
Today, I train full-time with the South Australian Sports Institute as a developing athlete. Every step forward reflects countless hours of training, dedication, and resilience. Representing Australia on the international stage is both a privilege and an honour, and I am committed to earning my place at the Paralympic Games.
Like all high-performance athletes, I face significant costs associated with training, competition, equipment, recovery, and support services. As a Para athlete, these expenses are increased by the need for specialised adaptive equipment that enables me to train and compete.
Your support will help me continue this journey and bring me one step closer to representing Australia at the Paralympic Games. Thank you for being part of it.
