My name is Faelan Smith and I am a proud young athlete from Dongara in regional Western Australia. I compete as a heptathlete and train across multiple track and field events that challenge me physically and mentally.

Athletics is something I am passionate about because it pushes me to work hard, stay disciplined, and constantly improve. Living regionally means there are extra challenges when trying to compete at a high level, but I am committed to doing everything I can to pursue my goals.

Throughout the athletics season, my family and I travel regularly between Dongara, Geraldton, and Perth so I can access coaching, high-performance training, and competition opportunities. I train with coach Gerald “Jacko” Whitby in Geraldton and compete through the Strive high-performance program and UWA Little Athletics Club in Perth.

Over the past two years, I have achieved multiple personal best performances and was crowned Age Champion in my division. During the 2024–25 season, I was also awarded Senior Boy and Heptathlete of the Year and placed 9th in Australia in Javelin at my first National Championships.

Most recently, I qualified for the Junior International Athletics Tour to Malaysia in July. This is an incredible opportunity for me to compete internationally, gain valuable experience, and continue working toward my dream of one day wearing the green and gold for Australia.

I am raising funds to help cover the costs associated with the Malaysia tour, including flights, accommodation, uniforms, and competition expenses. As a regional athlete, these opportunities involve significant travel and financial commitment for my family.

I also enjoy helping younger athletes at my club and hope to continue being a positive role model for other young people from regional communities.
