ABOUT Gergely Nagy
The Athlete
My name is Gergely, although everyone calls me Gary which is way easier and I prefer that too. Originally I’m from Hungary but my wife and I moved to Australia in January 2020.
I’ve been a canoe athlete my whole life, starting when I was just 11 years old in 2004. In the past 21 years I’ve participated in countless competitions, and I have been lucky enough to stand on the podium on several international competitions, including World and European Championships.
This January we also welcomed our first child, so when we travel to Gyor in September for the World Championships, I will be representing Australia with my son watching me from the riverbank.
Becoming a father while training for the World Championships and also working full time is definitely challenging but I love every minute of it.
Focus
My main goal is to do my very best at this year’s Canoe Marathon World Championships. I will be competing on both the Short Course (3.4km) and the Long Course (22km) in the Mens C1 category.
How your support will help
Preparing for a World Championships is not just about the physical and mental training. It also involves great financial planning to cover the costs of:
- Daily training and sports nutrition
- Traveling to the venue on the other side of the globe
- Equipment transportation
- Accomodation at the venue
- Insurance
Every contribution will go towards covering these expenses and therefore making the journey less stressful, allowing me to focus more on training.
